MoneySavingExpert.com has just posted the following message with the title Damaged goods: do I need a receipt for an exchange?.
Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but can't see where else it could go! I bought a phone case from Carphone Warehouse exactly 2 weeks ago. It has started to break, some of the outer lining is coming off. I would like to exchange it, but I don't have my receipt (can't find it anywhere!) As it's only an exchange and the product is faulty I assumed this would be fine, but was told in store I have to have my receipt as they need the transaction number. Is this correct, or am I legally allowed an exchange? I tried to look into it on Trading Standards website and also here on MSE, but tbh the information was a bit confusing, and seemed to apply if the product was fault when it was purchased (obviously mine only became damaged when I started to use it). Also it didn't mention anything about having a receipt, so I don't know where I stand! Thanks for any help!
