Default Golly we’re jolly!

MagCulture.com Has Just Posted the Following with the title Golly we’re jolly!

Time for some seasonal fun. Rubbish has been around in various guises for several years, first in hardback children’s annual style and latterly as a daily newspaper at London Fashion Week. Their new issue is just out and comes as a large-format magazine bursting with their unique approach to fashion. The team know their stuff but refuse to take it too seriously, which is a breath of fresh air when compared to the heaving piles of straight-laced style biannuals that clog the magazine distribution arteries. This magazine is fun, that’s real laugh out loud fun.

The first name to highlight is art director Bianca Wendt, who has done a beautiful job creating a stylish but comical design that perfectly reflects the editorial content. This distorted scan used for the contents page (above) sets the visual tone for the magazine. Other names remain shrouded behind pseudonyms.

My favourite story is Salad Dressing, Mr Rubbish’s shoot featuring vegatables dressed in designer items. Here, Giles the celery (represented by Crudité Lowther Management) models a miniature jumper by Sibling. Elsewhere, Clive the cucumber (apparently he doesn’t get out of his allotment for less than 10p) appears in a Henry Holland jacket.

Did I mention they don’t take themselves too seriously? Here (above) is the news page, parodying the seriousness of fashion advice (‘In an attempt to smash through the glass ceiling, women are growing balls in their airing cupboards’) while shamelessly abusing the use of drop caps. And below – a tribute to Gaga. You can do this at home, kids; boys and girls wear teapots, kitchen utensils and vacuum cleaners in this fabulous shoot by Sasha Sunshine.

This is just a taster of what I hope will become a more regularly-produced magazine. It’s an ideal Christmas present. Buy!
